* ... alright... let's give this "critique" thing a try...

Critiques

:iconangbayani:
I'm not a designer so I can't quite speak to the technicalities of the piece. But the first thing I notice about the piece as a professional martial artist and instructor is that the katana are upside down. The proper and practical way for a katana and wazikashi to be worn is actually with the blade edge upward. With the way the swords are positioned now, she wouldn't be able to slash an adversary properly on the draw. When you grip a knife, sword, or any slashing weapon, the blade lines up with the knuckles. That maximizes cutting power. Here's a youtube video that explains the mechanics of drawing a katana.

As always, the draftsmanship of your work is top notch. The attention to detail in the handles is a great touch, and the inking of the piece is solid, creating nice positive/negative shapes within the characters.

The only critique I can suggest is that the piece as a whole feels top right heavy due to the heavy black sky. Perhaps adding some imagery to the bottom left would help the flow of the composition, giving the eye something to come back to, and drag the viewer back into the piece. That moth could even be moved over and angled into the bottom left.

Also, maybe adding in some black shapes to represent windows in the background buildings might be interesting. May not work, but would be cool to experiment.

Overall your skills in drawing and inking are inspiring. Kudos on the piece.
